03-21-2006

John Ferguson, 2005 campaign chair and CEO of Corrections Corporation of America, presented the Iris Circle Award to Sally Holland, campaign coordinator, and Kent Adams, president of Caterpillar Financial Services.

Considered the highest honor given to a local company, the Iris Circle Award is bestowed each year to one company that shows outstanding support among its employees for the mission of United Way. Caterpillar Financial Services, Inc., was presented this award at United Way of Metropolitan Nashville's annual meeting on February 22 at the Wildhorse Saloon. The award is a painting by Victoria Boone that is displayed in the winner's offices until it is passed on to next year's recipient.

How They Did It

Caterpillar Financial Services employee giving increased to $215,230, with individual gifts averaging $411.53. Employees contributed 81% of their giving to United Way and its initiatives. The company also offered a dollar for dollar match to employee gifts. Additionally, 10 of its employees participated in United Way volunteer committees, including board of trustees, campaign cabinet, leadership group cabinets, and volunteer review teams.

A Challenge to Employees

During its campaign, Caterpillar Financial Services challenged the creativity of its employees with a project that reinforced just what is possible by coming together in a united way. Employees took simple white laundry baskets and let their imaginations soar, creating 14 baskets filled with items needed by United Way Family Resource Centers.

Making a Difference

All told, Caterpillar Financial Services raised a total of $432,961 for the campaign, an increase of 13% over their previous campaign.

The hard work and generosity of Caterpillar Financial Services and its employees emphasizes again that we can accomplish more together for our community than any of us can alone. Thank you for doing what matters!
