Criteria for receiving funding from United Way in 2008-2011 | Decisions based on strategic direction and Needs Assessment | Financial and Organizational Information | Who makes the funding decisions?

Financial and Organizational Information

Based upon the results of the 2005 fundraising cycle, United Way of Metropolitan Nashville has more than $7.3 million available to fund health and human service programs.

An additional $1.7 million was raised through our donors, which was specifically designated by the donors to nonprofit agencies – and other United Way’s - throughout Middle Tennessee.

The Better Business Bureau and National Charities Information Bureau guidelines suggest fund-raising costs should not exceed 35% and total overhead costs (fund-raising plus administrative expenses) not exceed 50% of total income. United Way of Metropolitan Nashville aggressively works to keep overhead costs at a minimum. The organization's overhead average for the last three audited years (2003-2005) was 13.4%.
